High-speed Rail Officials Host Meeting About Fresno Construction

Representatives from the California High-Speed Rail Authority and its contracting companies will hold an open house Thursday for people to learn more about upcoming rail construction in the Fresno area.

The open house is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rio Vista Middle School gymnasium, 6240 W. Palo Alto Ave. in northwest Fresno. The school is off of Herndon Avenue and east of Golden State Boulevard, a little more than a half-mile from where the high-speed rail line will run near the existing Union Pacific Railroad freight tracks.

Organizers say representatives from the construction team of Tutor Perini/Zachry/Parsons will offer information on the project’s design, right of way and business opportunities in the Fresno area.

The first construction segment of the statewide bullet-train route runs from the northeast edge of Madera to the south end of Fresno — a stretch of about 29 miles. Subcontractors have been demolishing structures on scattered parcels along the route since the summer to make way for construction of the rail line and associated structures, such as street overpasses.
