San Antonio Convention Center Phase II Complete
June 7, 2017
Zachry Construction’s Building Division completed Phase II of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The project included renovating 65,000 square feet of existing space and demolition of the original 1968 facility. This last and final phase involved selectively demolishing large portions of the existing convention center next to the San Antonio Riverwalk. This includes preservation of a large historic ceramic tile mural wall, a new entrance from Hemisfair Park and integration into a new river level amphitheater open space.
It was on Jan. 26, 2016, that the city held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the first and largest phase of a massive expansion and renovation of the Center which now includes the biggest ballroom in Texas. The entire project is the largest capital project in the City of San Antonio’s history. For more information on the expansion click here.
