Zachry Wins I-20 Expansion in South Carolina
LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina road officials say Interstate 20 west of Columbia will be the next South Carolina interstate expanded to three lanes in each direction.
The Department of Transportation said Friday that the project in Lexington County will add a third lane to 11 miles of I-20 from the U.S. Highway 378 exit west to Exit 49. Officials hope to award the project in the spring of 2016.
Currently, the DOT is renovating the interchange between Interstate 85 and Interstate 385 in Greenville and plans to award a contract by the end of the year to expand 7 miles of Interstate 77 north of Columbia to three lanes.
The three projects are being paid for through about $1 billion in highway money and bonds obtained through a law passed in 2013.
