US 90A BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
EAGLE LAKE, TX
Overview
In July 2020, Zachry Construction Corporation began work on a 15-month bridge replacement project in Eagle Lake, TX where U.S. Highway 90A meets the Colorado River. The work will involve building a new concrete bridge, roadway approaches and a new boat ramp, as well as demolishing the old bridge. The new bridge will be 44 feet wide, 1,350 feet long and have two Bents in the river.
Construction over water always presents challenges, from unexpected subsurface conditions to maintaining normal flow of the river while working safely. To lay a secure foundation, the team will install cofferdams, pump out the water and then drive concrete piles, pour a concrete seal slab, and construct reinforced concrete footings for the columns.
