Overview

The Loop 1604 Expansion Project is improving mobility, capacity, and safety along one of San Antonio’s heavily traveled corridors. Zachry, in a 50/50 joint venture with Austin Bridge & Road as North Loop Constructors, is delivering improvements along Loop 1604 from IH-10 to US 281.

The project expands Loop 1604 from a four-lane expressway to a ten-lane facility, including new eastbound and westbound mainlanes, improvements to existing pavement, and portions of the planned IH-10 direct connectors. Additional work includes reconfigured auxiliary lanes, entrance and exit ramps, and widened mainlane and frontage road bridges.

A major component of the project comes from the conversion of the Blanco Road intersection into a diverging diamond interchange designed to improve traffic flow and safety. The project also includes utility improvements, electrical and intelligent transportation systems, traffic signals, pavement markings, and other supporting infrastructure. Construction is being completed in carefully coordinated phases to advance the work while maintaining traffic through this critical regional corridor.
