The Roosevelt Memorial Bridge Replacement is a $408.4 million project that will provide a new crossing for U.S. 70 over Lake Texoma, strengthening a critical transportation connection between Bryan and Marshall counties and the broader southern Oklahoma and northern Texas region. Zachry Construction and Traylor Bros. are leading the design-build team for the project, which marks the first Modified Progressive Design-Build project in Oklahoma history.
Built just south of the existing bridge, the new Roosevelt Memorial Bridge will feature four travel lanes, wider shoulders, and a 10-foot multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. Improvements also include widening the U.S. 70 approaches to two lanes in each direction with a shared center turn lane. Once the new crossing is complete, the existing bridge, which opened in 1945 and carries more than 12,000 vehicles each day, will be removed.
Constructing the bridge across Lake Texoma presents significant technical and logistical challenges, including foundation work in water approximately 65 feet deep near the bridge. Early geotechnical investigations are helping the team evaluate subsurface conditions and inform the design of foundations that will support the new structure. The Modified Progressive Design-Build approach brings the construction team into the design process early, allowing constructability, risk, cost, and schedule considerations to be addressed before work advances in the field.
When complete, the new crossing will provide increased capacity, improved safety, and a more reliable connection for freight, commuters, residents, and visitors traveling through the Lake Texoma region.
